Pete's "Dirty Sock" Birthday

Yesterday, Pete turned 36 years old!!! He started out the day with a game of sunrise Frisbee golf with his friend Trey. When he got back, we went on an epic bike ride to the park with the kids. The way there was nice except for the riding into the wind part. We had a great time playing at the park, but unfortunately, the kids were over the experiences on the way back. At one point Pete and I switched bikes so that he could speed home with them to try and eliminate the whining and crying coming from the bike trailer. When the kids went down for there nap, Pete trimmed the oak tree, and fortunately, John helped him bundle all of the branches so that they were finished in half of the time it would have taken Pete to do it himself. We then went to Stillwater with John, Laura and baby John for dinner and sat on the patio for a wonderful dinner. After dinner we stopped at Publix where Pete picked out his own birthday cake :( and a present for the kids. I had planned to make him a banana cream pie but, we decided to make it a later in the week treat. We went back to our house, made a fire and visited with John, Laura and Trey.
Taylor Grace had a very hard time going to sleep after all the birthday sweets excitement of the day. Pete, Tay and I were all sitting on the floor in her room, well after she should have been in be,d talking about the day. I asked her if she had told daddy happy birthday again tonight and Pete told her he was 36. She said "dirty socks" and was looking at his feet. We said no, 36, and she said "oh, dirty socks, Tay Tay socks too." We then took a trip outside to see the starts and moon, which were both "night, night" and then finally put her back to bed. Pete and I were sitting outside watching the kids play in their pool the night before his birthday. We were contemplating our incredible life that the Lord has so graciously blessed us with. Pete said, "you know, all the things in your life that you think will make you feel accomplished, or fulfilled, end up being disappointing. Degrees, jobs, accomplishments. All of them except children. Children actually bring you more joy than  you thought they were going to." We are blessed everyday by the two incredible gifts that the Lord has allowed us to have.
